Bananas need no introduction. It is not just a fruit but a part of our lives. Whether we want to have it as it is, or to make smoothies or pudding out with it, it remains a part of our everyday meal in someway or the other. But, the most annoying part is that the shelf life of banana is hardly 3-4 days. But, here’s the magic! If you want to know how to increase the shelf life of banana and save it upto months, read how you can do it.
1. Cover the stem
Covering the stem of banana bunch can help prevent it from over riping for weeks. You can use multiple items to cover them. For instance, wet cloth or an aluminium foil.
Just leave it covered and you are done.
Even chef Vikas Khanna covers his bananas with wet cloth and he found his experiment successful.
Freezing banana and storing them in cold warehouses is yet another popular way of keeping them fresh for months. Although you can store them with peel, it is suggested to store them after peeling because frozen peel can spoil the banana. So, it is preferable if you peel off its skin and then keep it in an airtight or plastic container.
Alternative, you can cut it into small pieces and then store, to make it last for months. But make sure there’s no space to let air get in.
3. Separate them
Not a very popular tip, though some vendors say that separating the bananas and keeping them individally will increase its shelf life. So you can even try this.
