Makeup is a non-negotiable, everyday wear for many. And most of us do apply it without giving much thought. But is it harmful for us? Or it doesn’t really affect our skin? Well, there’s no right and wrong answer to it. It simply depends on factors like- your frequency, skin type and products you use.

What are different skin types?

Skin type is broadly divided into 4 categories:

1-oily – excess oil production, large pores, blackheads and acne prone

2-sensitive – tight, stinging, intolerant to many products and prone to redness

3-dry – dull, rough or flaky and prone to itchiness

4-normal/combination – may be oily in the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) but problem-free elsewhere.

What products should I choose?

When it comes to using products, it must be a wisely made decision. Face is the most delicate part of your body. The cosmetic products applied on the face should definitely be good quality ones, preferably branded.
You must choose products suitable for your skin type, by looking for the ingredients on the label. Choosing non-fragnant products can also help prevent infections.

How frequent should i apply makeup products?

It is advisable to avoid applying makeup on regular basis as it can cause many problems in the long run. Applying it once a week may be ideal. You can also choose to apply it on special occasions instead of daily.

What if it reacts on my skin?

Firstly, you should always perform a patch-test by applying a small quantity of the product on your neck or chin area. Leave it for some hours to check if it reacts , if it does, do not apply it on the entire face. Look for alternative products.

If by chance, you still got allergy or skin infection, you must see a skin specialist or dermatologist immediately.

Are there any harmful effects of makeup in the long run?

Wearing makeup everyday can lead to a number of skin problems in the long run. It may include clogged pores, pre-mature ageing, dry or oily skin.

1- Use your face every night before going to bed.
2- Use moisturizers and sunscreen everyday.
3- Use clean and personal brushes (No sharing)
4- Choose products according to your face type.
