Coronavirus Update – Canadian PM To Continue To Self-Isolate After Wife’s Recovery

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic is spreading throughout the world like fire. It is killing more and more people, and infecting many more. The virus has also infected many political figures around the world, such as British PM Boris Johnson, Iranian ministers, British junior health minister Nadine Dorries have tested positive for the virus.

On 12th March, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s wife Sophie Trudeau tested positive for the virus. She had just returned from a trip to London.

Following Sophie’s diagnosis, the Trudeau family decided to quarantine themselves.

Since then, Sophie Trudeau has recovered from the virus. However, the Prime Minister has said that he will continue to self-isolate.

WHAT DID JUSTIN TRUDEAU SAY?

Trudeau said that the doctors do not know exactly when his wife became virus-free. Hence, to ensure that he hasn’t been infected, he would be spending another 14 in quarantine.

“I have to continue in isolation in order to be sure that we’re following all the protocols and the recommendations by Health Canada.”

He said that it was important for him to do so since he was “sharing a roof with someone who tested positive for COVID-19.”

While Trudeau will be staying at Rideau Cottage, his wife and kids will be staying at Harrington Lake. Harrington Lake is the site of a summer residence and official retreat for Canadian prime ministers.

WHAT IS THE STATUS OF CORONAVIRUS IN CANADA?

The virus has caused relatively less damage in Canada as compared to countries like the USA, Iran, and Italy.

There are currently 7,300 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the country. The death toll stands at 70 as of now.

Dr Theresa Tam advised Canadians returning back to their country from all over the world to strictly quarantine themselves for 14 days, as per the government’s orders. Dr Tam is Canada’s chief public health officer.
