US President Donald Trump arrived in India for a historic two-day visit. While the event ended up becoming more about the two men than the two countries, it had optical significance none the less. Both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Donald Trump were seen in their natural zones, delivering rhetorical speeches, ramping up social media communication and a strong hug game on.

With that said, let’s take a look at how Trump‘s Indian visit ultimately transpired.

HOW DID DONALD TRUMP’S VISIT TO INDIA HAPPEN?

Trump arrived at the Ahmedabad International Airport with his wife Melania in the morning at 11:40. He was received by the Indian Prime Minister. As was promised, Trump received a grand welcome.

Throughout the entire route from the airport to the Motera cricket stadium, artists dotted the path, donning their beautiful cultural attire. In fact, Trump walked out on a red carpet.

At around 2, Modi welcomed Trump at the historic Sabarmati Ashram. The US President was welcomed with a shawl and a cotton thread. Modi took Trump around, including Hriday Kunj, the house of Mahatma Gandhi.

Next, the event that had so much hype. Yes, we are talking about the Namaste Trump event. With roaring and bustling crowds, both leaders delivered provocative speeches, basically praising their countries and talking of the shared values of US and India. Interestingly, Trump called Modi a tough negotiator, indicating that no trade deal had been signed between the two countries.

Trump certainly had his notes prepared as he name-dropped everyone from Sachin Tendulkar to Virat Kohli to Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.

Later in the evening, Trump visited the Indian symbol of love – the Taj Mahal. Post that, an official dinner was hosted for him at the President house.

However, in the main leg of his journey in Delhi, no trade deal could be finalized. Instead, a defence deal was signed.
