The Mac Mini has always been widely used by people all around the world due to its usefulness as a server, a media library for one’s living room, and its affordability. It is especially beneficial for students and developers who look for a cost effective Mac. Apple may include new features to improve Mac Mini.
The users have long awaited for updates on the Mac mini from the past four years. While everyone had almost given up hopes on the release of an updated version of the Mac mini, it has recently been noted that Apple would soon be releasing an enhanced Mac mini. The potential features of the new Mac mini are expected to be revealed at Apple’s October 30th event that is being held in New York.
The probable features of the new Mac Mini:
The present model runs on dual-core Core i5 or i7 processors. Since the time Mac mini was last upgraded, four new generations of Intel Core processors have been developed. Thus it is likely that Apple would upgrade to the 8th generation Core i5-8400 and Core i7-8700 processors, which are six-core CPUs. Another possibility could be the Intel/AMD hybrid units such as the Core i5-8305G and Core i7-8809G processors. AMD Radeon RX Vega graphics onboard a quad-core, Intel processor is included in these hybrid processing units. This is an expensive chip that is made specifically for miniaturized PCs like the Intel NUC. It would therefore help make the Mac mini a more capable gaming and content creation tool.
SSD Hard Drive
The presently available Mac mini comes with an option for a HDD, SSD, or a fusion drive combination. This was the most commonly offered option a few years ago. Lately, SSD-only storage option is being widely used in the market. The new Mac mini is thus expected to be released with SSD-only storage with a capacity up to 2TB or more. This update is already been made in most of the Mac devices, including the iMac Pro and the Mac Pro.
According to a few rumors, Apple may possibly update the Mac mini into a Mini Pro model. This is mainly intended for professionals who wish to use a higher power model while they still keep their display and accessories. A Mac mini Pro would hence have an expanded storage option along with an updated processor. This theoretical model would also possess certain additional business-friendly features.
It would be sensible for the new features to emphasize on network and server management since the Mac mini has vastly been used in business data storage and network setups. This would allow the Mac mini to fit into various data setups across different types of businesses.
The new Mac mini model is most likely to come with additional ports, specifically USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 and additional Ethernet ports. In doing so, the new Mac mini would be more useful for management of data in businesses. It would also be make it more resourceful. This would be the case if Apple emphasizes more on Pro users and identifies the mini’s role in the office.
Whether the updated model will still have the HDMI port or not is yet to be decided by Apple. This decision will determine if the Mac mini remains to be an entertainment device. If the HDMI port will still remain, the video support would also require an upgrade to 4K. But if Apple decides that the Mac mini is more useful for workplace tasks, the HDMI port may be removed. This will make it similar to the other Pro connections.
The Mac mini is well known for having a compact size. But lately, much more compact sized PCs are available which can easily adhere to the back of the monitor. The new Mac mini would thus need to focus on upgrading its size and design in accordance to the changing context.
Purely recycled aluminum from iPhone cases is generally used to build Mac minis that are used within the Apple facilities. The material used for creating the new Mac mini is not yet known. However it may be said that recycled materials could possibly be included in its architecture.
