On the 9th of August, 2018, Google had launched a new app quite silently, which is known as Cameos.
This app was launched on the App store. It basically depicts a way in which the celebrities could personally share answers to the commonly asked questions.
Read on to get more insight about this new Google app.
What exactly does the Cameos app do?
As mentioned earlier, Google shows an interesting way in which the celebrities (like musicians, actors, athletes, artists, public figures, etc.) could connect with the user or public.
With this new social media app, the next time you search for your favourite celebs, the search could get more fascinating with their official or personal answers for most of the questions asked on Google by the people.
More Insight –
As per the app’s description on the App Store, the celebrity or public figure could choose –
- Which question they want to answer.
- When to answer.
This concept, in fact, has been tested for quite a while now by Google. An iOS version of the app has also been released. The celebrities would have to install this app in order to gain access.
The celebs who have an access could start recording small video answers, relevant to the following sections of questions –
- Most Asked Questions.
- Fan Questions.
- Trending topics (related to the respective celeb or political leader).
The recorded videos could henceforth be seen right at the top of that particular search results. This step seems more like the other social media apps such as Instagram, wherein the user creates vertical videos for the various other users who follow them.
Although it seems to be on a small scale comparatively, it is still a huge step for all the celebrities or public figures to showcase their point of views to others.
Is Cameos like Reddit’s Ask Me Anything (AMA)?
Yes, the concept behind Google’s Cameos is much like Reddit’s Ask Me Anything. But there is one minor advantage of the fact that the celebrities could choose to record their videos whenever they want.
Note – Cameos, is entirely different from a Cameo, which is another celebrity video app. Cameo basically lets people pay the celebrities in order to record their short video messages.
Thus, it clearly looks like Google is slowly stepping into the likes of Instagram or Snapchat.
Hence, it would possibly be within a certain amount of time in order to realise if slow and steady actually won the race or not.
