We don’t know about you, but we’re pretty jealous of celebrities who show off their luscious locks on the red carpet. No matter how long or short their hair is, it always looks shiny and healthy (unlike ours that doesn’t even look alive!)
So, what is the secret to their shiny and glossy hair?
Byrdie compiled a list of celebrities giving their 2 cents on taking care of your hair.
WHAT DID THESE CELEBRITIES SAY ABOUT HAIRCARE?
“My hair continually stays in loose twists no matter what the style, so I will take down my loose twists at night from whatever style I am wearing at the moment and braid it into six or seven large braids or Bantu knots, placing a little extra-virgin coconut and olive oil on the strands as I braid. Then I wrap it with a silk scarf. When it comes to hair products, I am very minimalistic, but I love all-natural oils like Nature’s Way Extra Virgin Organic Coconut Oil ($9), extra-virgin cold-pressed olive oil, jojoba oil, Jamaican Black Castor Oil ($9), Shea Moisture’s Reconstructive Elixir Oil ($10), VO5 Tea Therapy Conditioner ($14), and Dr. Bronner’s Liquid Soap ($16).”
“I think the biggest mistake you can make is washing your hair every day,” King asserts. She washes her hair “once a week, maybe twice.” “You know with so much on it—so much heat and all of this stuff—and I’ve had my hair worked on since I was a baby, and it’s still beautiful and healthy, and it’s because I don’t wash it. You need to have the natural oils of your hair, and people know this by now, but I think a lot of people don’t actually follow it. That’s the one thing that I can say is that it’s a real truth.”
“Whether you’re blowing your hair out every day or are exposed to high-stress conditions like I am as a model, you want to make sure you’re using something that is protecting your hair from the sun and keeping it hydrated. For that, I use all Christophe Robin products. I also use Oribe. I use the dry shampoo, and the heat protection lotion is amazing, and the split-end treatment is incredible, and the gold oil.”
“A main one that I’ve been learning a lot about recently is don’t be afraid to use oils on your hair. I can get very wild hair because it’s this beachy texture, so I’ve been using coconut oil, which I learned on my last film, all over my body, including completely lathering it into my hair. And I’ll just sleep like that, and in the morning my skin just absorbs the moisture of the oil, and so does my hair. It’s pretty transformational, so that’s a big tip I’ve been learning a lot about.”
“Give your hair a great natural deep-conditioning treatment by massaging warm coconut oil into your scalp and hair. Leave it one for about an hour, and then shampoo it off. Do this about once a week and you will soon see results.”
“My one curly-hair trick that always works is after my shower, I keep my hair in braids for a few hours before leaving the house. It helps lock in the moisture from my conditioner. A lot of my friends with straight hair do it too, actually.”
“I just wash and hope for the best.”
