Social media emerged as a platform for social communications and better interactions, but today, it has become a significant part of our lives.
Everyday we spend countless hours scrolling through the feed. Although, temporarily, it may seem to be a great way of interacting and making new connections. But, in long term it can lead to human insolation.
Social media affects our mental health in many ways.
Increasing use can lead to narcissism- feeling over proud about self, while others may feel low.
Such attitudes can be extreme and therefore lead to insomnia (sleeplessness). Minimum 8 hours of sleep every night is essential in order to stay mentally fit and active. Not just the sleeplessness can lead to severe consequences but also the isolation which is bound to arise.
Today, we have replaced face to face interactions by social media chatting. And undoubtedly, social media has made interaction instant, and keeps us up to date about other’s life and happenings.
But the experts have studied that social media has more of negative effects than positive. Lack of face to face interaction, can lead to anxiety and insolation.
Additionally, social media plays an important role in influencing us. Today, people tend to believe and share information as soon as they get it. It can prove to be dangerous as it may spread false information.
To conclude, social media can be both, a bane and boon. It depends on the personality of it’s users, their age and their consumption pattern.
Excess of anything is bad. And believing and sharing everything without fact-checking can spread hate and animosity. Thus, it’s recommended to use social media with due care, taking into consideration how it can impact our lives.
