Is it OK to be a Night Owl?

Since early times people have been in co-ordination with the nature, when it’s about sleeping and working patterns. By this i mean, when it is night, it is time to sleep as there was no electricity and light. And with the sunrise, people wake up. However, with the invention of electricity, easy availability of light and emerging gadgets, some people have made a shift in their lifestyle and become night owls.

Night owls are those who stay awake at night just like owls do. The reason for staying awake at night may vary from person to person. For some, it is studying or working, for others, it may be binge-watching movies or streaming.
So, is it okay to be a night-owl? Is a concern today.

Let me talk it in two ways.
First, efficiency. Some people say that those who wake up early in the morning can focus better and thus succeed in their jobs. However, the same is not true with every case. Yes, it is better to study or do high-concentration work at the time when there no distraction. But, peaceful and fresh mornings aren’t the case with every individuals. For some, the ambience or homely environment is such that they can concentrate better at late night and thus prefer working on the same time. So, it is more of an individual comfort than a rule of law.

Second, health. Some studies have claimed that those who stay awake late at night are more prone to illness, weakness and loss of immunity.
According to Forbes.com “Recent studies have discovered that, regardless of their lifestyle, people who stay up late had both higher levels of body fat and an increased risk of developing other health problems, such as diabetes and low muscle mass, than did early birds.”

Therefore, it is advisable to follow the law of nature. However, if you believe you can be more active and focused at night, you can choose to stay awake. But ensure that you get at least 8 hours of sleep to remain fit.
