Shane Dawson is an extremely popular YouTuber. He has nearly 22 million subscribers on his YouTube channel, and more than 11 million followers on Instagram. Recently, he has been receiving major backlash for old content that has surfaced, including racist videos and jokes about pedophilia. One of the resurfaced videos concern singer-songwriter Willow Smith.
Willow Smith’s mother Jada Smith, and her brother Jaden Smith have spoken up about the video.

A resurfaced video shows Shane Dawson sexualizing an 11-year-old Willow, where he pretends to masturbate to Willow’s poster.
In the video, he says “whip your hair back and forth,” referring to Willow’s song, “Whip My Hair.”

Jada Pinkett Smith and Jaden Smith took to Twitter to condemn Shane’s actions.
Jada tweeted –

Jaden’s response was more strong-worded.

Jada and Jaden’s tweets came a day after Shane released a YouTube video apologizing for his past actions. In the video titled “Taking Accountability,” he addressed his inappropriate behavior, including instances of him doing blackface, as well as making jokes about pedophilia.
” [I have] done a lot of things in my past that I hate, that I wish I could make go away, that I tried to make go away by deleting videos, or untagging my Instagram, literally doing whatever I can to pretend those things didn’t happen.”

“I would never talk about a child in any way that was inappropriate. That is disgusting, that is gross, that is something I did for shock value. I promise that is not me.”
He also stated that experiencing trauma during childhood led to his behavior.
“I’ve had a lot of pain, I’ve had a lot of issues with my family. I took that pain, and I turned it into jokes. Instead of joking about them, I should’ve gone to therapy.”
