The protests over the killing of George Floyd have sparked unprecedented violence in the USA. Mahatma Gandhi, considered the father of India, has become the latest victim of this violence.
His statue in the Indian embassy in the USA was vandalized by some miscreants over June 2 and June 3. This saw the statue being spray-painted while graffitis were also made on the statue. The Indian embassy has informed the State Department and registered a complaint with local law enforcement agencies, which are now conducting an investigation into the incident.

It is certainly a moment of red faces for the USA looking to build cordial relations with India. They will surely look to take strict actions. On the other hand, the protestors have called out Mahatma Gandhi as a racist.
HOW HAS THE US RESPONDED TO THE MAHATMA GANDHI STATUE BEING VANDALIZED?
U.S. Ambassador to India Ken Juster apologized for the desecration of the statue outside the Indian embassy in Washington.
“So sorry to see the desecration of the Gandhi statue in Wash, DC. Please accept our sincere apologies. Appalled as well by the horrific death of George Floyd & the awful violence & vandalism. We stand against prejudice & discrimination of any type. We will recover & be better,” Juster tweeted.

The statue of Mahatma Gandhi is not the only effigy to face the brunt. In Washington D.C., a historic church was burnt down while the National Monument and Lincoln Memorial were also destroyed by the raging protestors destroying everything in their sight. There’s no clarity as to what direction the protest might take in the future.
