Jane Manchun Wong, the reverse engineering expert has discovered two new Stories tools that Facebook is currently working on. These tools can be particularly interesting for social media marketers. There are in-development options for a link and mention stickers in Facebook Stories. As of now, these features are unreleased and unannounced.
Links in Facebook Stories
Currently, only a few users can add links to Facebook Stories. A few select users can add links as a part of an ongoing test. They also have the ability to cross-post from Instagram Stories, where they have ‘swipe up’ links active on both platforms. Swipe up links on Instagram are limited to account holders having at least 10K followers or a verified profile.
Although the usage of Facebook Stories is increasing now, the feature has not caught on as Facebook might have hoped. Adding links to Stories could further bring attention to this tool as a way to drive traffic from there.
There is an apparent trade-off here. Facebook understands and is cautious of its potential use for spamming. Facebook might release these features to selected users only to avoid spamming. However, we can only speculate for now.
Mention Stickers in Facebook Stories
Another option being tested is the Mention sticker. Similar to Instagram, it will allow users to tag other users in their Story. What is surprising is that this feature isn’t already available to the users. There is no doubt that this feature will roll out soon enough. This option will be a good way to boost engagement with the audience and raise awareness about your content on Stories
Given that Stories enjoy a prime location in the app, it will be a key part of the Facebook experience going forward. If you haven’t started using Stories yet, it may be time to reconsider. It makes sense to keep tabs on upcoming features and make them a part of your strategy.
