Yes, Instagram launches another exciting new feature. This time it’s for the Instagram Stories and it involves Music!
On the 28th of June, which is hardly a week after the announcement of 1 Billion monthly active users, Instagram announced that it reached 400 million daily users. In order to celebrate this milestone, Instagram announced about the option of Music to be added on Stories.
More about the Announcement –
This announcement was initially started as a rumour due to the various deals that Facebook was making with the different music labels like Universal Music Group and Sony / ATV Music Publishing. Warner Music Group had also announced that it reached a deal with Facebook to add its artists to the mix.
Thus, the users could share stories with the tracks of different artists like Ed Sheeran, ColdPlay, Beyonce, Dua Lipa, Shawn Mendes, etc. When your friends are watching your story, they’ll hear the song playing as they’re viewing your photo or video. They’ll also see a sticker showing the song title and artist name.
“We’re adding new songs to our music library every day. The music sticker is now available as part of Instagram version 51 in select countries, and the ability to choose a song before capturing video is available on iOS only, with Android coming soon. We know that music can play an important role in how you share your moments and express yourself with friends and we’re working hard to bring it to the global community in the future”, said Instagram in a blog post.
How to Add Music to your Stories?
Instagram has allowed this new feature currently for few countries – Australia, US, UK, New Zealand, France, and Germany as well as in Sweden. But it is soon to be released in other countries as well. And the process of adding music to your story is quite simple –
- Swipe to add Story.
- Click on the sticker icon and select the ‘Music’ sticker.
- Now search for the song that you want. (You can choose from various artists, tracks, most popular songs, genres and even moods.)
- Now trim it, rewind it and fast forward it in order to select the right part of the audio for your story.
- You can also add the song directly while recording story by just swiping to the filters like SuperZoom, etc, where you would find ‘Music’.
Snapchat’s scenario –
In November 2017, the daily users were reported to be 300 million and about a year back, it reached 250 million users. This gave an insight that the Instagram Stories are growing at about six times faster than the Snapchat’s whole app which has added just 13 million daily users over the past six months.

Also, with IGTV, they are competing with YouTube. But it also seems like with this new update, they are competing with the famous musical.ly as well.
Music indeed plays a major role for any particular post. In a way it happens to somehow speak louder than normal photos or just a plain-silent Story. Thus this new feature could surely attract more and more users towards Instagram.
