One plus 6t’s fingerprint sensor gets better with use

Soon after the one plus 6’s launch, they had already begun working on the One plus 6T. Few months later, One plus 6T was launched as well, this time with an in-display fingerprint sensor. This was a flagship which was most awaited by fans around the globe.

The reason for the long wait behind this flagship was the in-display fingerprint sensor. This is a budding technology that we haven’t seen on many mainstream devices yet. This made One plus 6T the first smartphone from OnePlus to have this feature. The company claims that the fingerprint sensor can unlock the phone in just 0.34 seconds. OnePlus calls this feature to be the “Screen Unlock”.  They had taken it to their forums to explain how it gets better over time.

One Plus

Yale Liu, software engineer at OnePlus, had said this on one of the forums:

“Every time a user successfully unlocks the phone with their fingerprint, the sensor also records areas of the finger that weren’t registered in the initial fingerprint setup stage. This fingerprint data is then added to the data the phone already holds, making it more complete. So, every time the in-display fingerprint sensor is used, it gathers more data about the user’s fingerprint. This means that over time, the phone will unlock even faster.”

Better One Plus

The technology was being perfected for almost a year before it had been implemented on the One plus 6T. Moreover, the technology used is a 2nd-gen optical fingerprint module. A graphic is also included that shows that the phone’s unlock animation provides a light source to illuminate the finger. The reflecting green light allows the sensor to “see” the fingerprint which is then updated with the previous data.

Surprisingly, there is confirmation that the algorithms programmed are so advanced to identify if the finger is wet and, if you have a cut on it as well. In such situations, the phone just adds this new data to the algorithm to improve unlock speeds in the future.

The OnePlus 6T comes with a 6.41-inch Optic AMOLED Full HD plus display. It is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor with either 6GB or 8GB RAM and 128GB/256GB of internal storage. It features a 16MP + 20MP rear camera and a 16MP front-facing camera and comes with an impressive set of features for making your photography experience better. The phone runs on OxygenOS 9.0 based on Android Pie and is backed by a 3,700mAh battery.
