Android was first released to public 10 years ago in 2008. Android keeps working hard on improving its OS to compete with iOS. The latest version Android 9.0 Pie is finally here.
Android 9 Pie vs Android 8 Oreo
Few differences are:
Android is more stripped-back today than it was in 2014. Android Pie brings back a little more color, a few more curves, to the system. It can not be called a dramatic new look, but some of the edges have been softened. For example
- The Setting menu now has colorful icons
- The drop-down Quick Setting bar uses blue circles rather than plain icons
- Notification drop-down also looks like a rounded-off digital Post-it.
Android Pie has a feature called Dashboard that lets you see how much time you spend on your phone each day. That time is broken down into a pie graph of the apps you use. It also keeps track of how many times you unlock your phone in a day and the number of notifications received.
App Timers set a time allowance for specific apps. They reset at midnight each day. Users get a reminder when the allowance is nearly gone and once the limit is over, the app icon will grey-out.
There are many other improvements in Android 9 Pie.
