The papaya, papaw, or pawpaw is the fruit of the Carica papaya plant. It is one of the 22 accepted species in the genus Carica of the family Caricaceae. Its origin is in the tropics of the Americas, perhaps from Central America and southern Mexico.

Can cause birth defects
Papaya has a component called papain which can be toxic for your baby in case you are pregnant. The baby can suffer from birth defects. Also, you can face problems while breastfeeding your baby. Therefore it is advisable to avoid eating this humble fruit during and after pregnancy for a significant amount of time.
Can cause allergic reactions
Unripe papaya may cause severe allergic reactions in sensitive people. Papaya latex can be a severe irritant and vesicant on skin. Papaya juice and seeds are unlikely to cause adverse effects when taken orally; however, papaya leaves at high doses may cause stomach irritation.

Can lead to digestive issues
It is believed that the fruit has high amounts of fibre content which can prove to be great for people with constipation. However, excessive consumption of this fruit can lead to an upset stomach. Also, the skin of the fruit is rich in latex that can contain latex that can irritate the stomach and cause pain and discomfort. The fibre in the fruit can also bind with the stools and cause diarrhoea, leaving you dehydrated.
