Snapchat has always been at a downfall due to its growing competitor – Instagram. But it looks like they are adding new features to gain their users back.
The new feature which is named as Eagle, lets you shop through Snapchat.
Yes, you heard that right, it’s shopping!

How was Eagle first encountered?
This new secret feature was first encountered by Ishan Agarwal, who is an app researcher. He was casually looking into Snapchat’s code in the Android version of the app, when he came across this certain snippet of code. It was hinted with an unreleased feature termed as “Visual Search” which drives the user to Amazon’s listings.
Ishan used to constantly give out leading details on certain topics such as Instagram’s video calling, soundtracks, Focus portrait mode and QR Nametags features that were all later officially launched. Hence it could be wise to say that this specific news about Snapchat’s Eagle could in fact be an official news soon.

The word “Eagle” has been given as a code word to Snapchat’s secret Visual Product Search Feature. Basically, this could turn your smartphone’s camera in Snapchat into a specific tool through which you could shop on Amazon.
In the newest version of Snapchat Eagle was renamed as “Camera Search.”
Amazon started its affiliate marketing program in 1996 that pays commissions to other businesses that provide links to products in the company’s web store, a revenue-sharing arrangement that has become one of the most popular in the world.
It isn’t quite sure as to how Amazon is helping Snapchat as of yet, but we could give you a brief depending on the speculations.
According to TechCrunch’s sources, once you click a photo of a particular product or the barcode, it redirects you to Amazon’s page wherein you could purchase the item. It has the following description –
“Press and hold to identify an object, song, barcode, and more! This works by sending data to Amazon, Shazam, and other partners.”
This could possibly be Snapchat’s huge turn over in the new revenue system since Amazon sales could generate a lot of sales easily with just a photo.
Snapchat’s Scenario as of now –
Snapchat hardly has a constant (or in fact reducing) amount of users which is about 191 million. But this user rate doesn’t seem to grow further due to its constant Scrutiny from various investors and competitors. We could note Facebook’s Instagram since they always seem to copy Snapchats features and somehow make it more appealing to their users.
Due to all this, Snapchat reported a loss of about $385 million in Q1 2018. It was also reported that they require additional revenue resources in order to keep their heads above the water. Probably this is why they are in talks with the Amazon. And it must be noted that Snapchat has been selling their Spectacles v2 camera glasses on Amazon.
Snapchat was also involved with Blippar, the machine vision startup. Hence, may be Snap is in fact very keen about this “Visual Search” feature.
There were no firm comments regarding this matter from Snapchat or Amazon as of yet. But it could still be said that there is indeed something great coming to their users soon.
