WhatsApp is used by roughly 1.5 billion people across the globe. It is considered the most popular messenger in the world. Due to that fact, WhatsApp tries to keep up to public expectations by sending the necessary updates. In the upcoming update, it is set to introduce a new feature that boosts your battery. Another interesting feature that will be introduced is Dark Mode.
What is a Dark Mode?
Dark Mode is a feature that turns the background from white to black. It would convert icons, menu and background to darker colors to make late-night texting easier on the eyes. Dark Mode is helpful as the users will not face blinding effect when using the app in pitch black conditions. This tool is useful because it saves a lot of charge on your phone. It cuts down on the brightness used by the smartphone to power the display hence giving you good battery life.
Dark mode has already been introduced on few other apps. Few of those being YouTube, Microsoft outlook and Twitter. WhatsApp will roll out the feature to users worldwide in its next software update.
Dark Mode aims to cut down the amount of blue light that reaches your eyes because the blue light can disrupt your sleep patterns by meddling with the body’s internal clock. Scientists recommend limiting your exposure to it at late night.
More about the update
WhatsApp currently uses Google Drive to back up chat data to the cloud. WhatsApp executives added “To avoid the loss of any backups, we recommend you manually back up your WhatsApp data before November 12, 2018”. Users should make sure to back up their chats before updating to ensure any precious files are not lost. Besides that, backups that haven’t been updated in more than a year will be automatically removed from the Google Drive storage. Its better to back up the data to avoid any loss of data. This does not apply to Apple devices because they use iCloud for backup purpose.
As of now, the Dark Mode is included in the latest beta version. There is no guarantee that the messaging service will decide to roll-out the feature to its users worldwide. WhatsApp regularly tests new features that do not make it into the final version of the app update.
Unfortunately, no detailed information was provided surrounding the potential release date of the new function.
